For an East Village or Lower East Side move, describe the actual staircase, elevator and entrance before choosing a moving plan. Two Guys And a Truck NYC serves moves in both neighborhoods. Their shared housing history is useful context, but it cannot tell us the access at your apartment. This guide helps you turn that uncertainty into useful details for a written estimate.

Historic tenements are context, not an elevator survey
The City Planning report on the East Village/Lower East Side Historic District describes rowhouses converted to multiple dwellings and later purpose-built tenements. It also describes subsequent apartment-house construction. Ask about your actual building’s current access rather than assuming the neighborhood is entirely walk-ups. NYC Planning East Village/Lower East Side report.
Use the exact street and entrance
The designated district described in the report occupies parts of blocks between Bowery/Third Avenue and Avenue A, from East 2nd Street to St. Mark’s Place. That is a defined historic area, not a boundary for all moves in the East Village or Lower East Side. Supply the full address and cross street, especially if the apartment entrance differs from the building’s main frontage. NYC Planning East Village/Lower East Side report.
An East River address is not permission to use the FDR
NYC DOT lists F.D.R. Drive among roads where commercial vehicles are not permitted. An address near the river therefore still needs a truck-appropriate approach. Give us both endpoints and the loading door so transport can be considered alongside the building work. Do not base the schedule on a passenger-car route. NYC DOT parkway restrictions.
How we handle the move plan
We discuss the stair carry using the route from each large piece to the exit. Count exterior steps separately from interior flights and describe a turn immediately outside the apartment. Measure door openings and narrow landings; send the dimensions of furniture that cannot be taken apart. If the unit does have an elevator, ask management which car may be used, its usable size and how the move window is booked. Forward current COI instructions if the property requests them. For packing, separate books and other dense contents from bulky light items and identify fragile pieces needing a packing discussion. We use the inventory and both access descriptions to prepare the written estimate. Leave room in the conversation for an unresolved furniture-fit question instead of assuming a piece can pass. Before moving day, keep the shared exit path clear and identify items that are staying.
Questions before moving day
Can you tell the number of stair flights from my floor number?
We need the actual carry route. A stoop or lower entrance may add or change steps, and floor naming can leave those out. Describe the path and count flights rather than sending only the apartment floor.
Is every East Village home a walk-up?
No such conclusion follows from the historic report. Confirm the present elevator and stair arrangement at your building, including any restrictions on moving furniture in the elevator.
Can the truck use the FDR for a Lower East Side pickup?
NYC DOT excludes commercial vehicles from F.D.R. Drive. Provide the working entrance and destination so a suitable approach can be discussed; do not assume the quickest car route applies to the moving vehicle.
