Moving in Chelsea can involve a stoop entrance, a service elevator or an entrance that differs from the address on the lease. Two Guys And a Truck NYC moves people in, from and to Chelsea. This guide helps you prepare the furniture path and property instructions needed for a written estimate, without treating every building on the block alike.

Rowhouse entrances: start at the sidewalk
NYC Planning’s West Chelsea report describes Chelsea historic-district rowhouses with stoops and walk-out basement units. If that matches your property, say which entrance serves your apartment. A lower-level exit and a stoop entrance can produce very different carries. Measure the doorway you will actually use and describe the first turn inside. NYC Planning West Chelsea report.
West Chelsea: locate the working door
The NYC Council’s West Chelsea designation notice locates the historic district around West 25th through West 28th Streets and Tenth Avenue toward the West Side Highway. Use the actual building entrance rather than that broad district label when describing a pickup. For a studio or office, ask the manager whether furniture uses a separate service door and whether a freight elevator is available. NYC Council West Chelsea designation.
Chelsea above 14th Street: Midtown curb limits
NYC Finance defines a no-double-parking area from 14th to 60th Streets, First through Twelfth Avenues, from 7am to 7pm daily except Sunday. It separately describes a three-hour pickup/delivery/service limit from First through Eighth Avenues in those hours, unless posted signs allow longer. Check which part of Chelsea contains the actual loading entrance, then read its signs and discuss a lawful loading position. An elevator booking does not grant curb rights. These are distinct boundaries; do not extend the narrower three-hour rule to every Chelsea avenue. NYC Finance parking violation definitions, codes 46/47/86.
How we handle the move plan
We work through the Chelsea furniture route from room to truck, then repeat the process at the destination. List the largest pieces first, with their dimensions and whether they come apart. Include the stoop, vestibule, corridor and narrowest landing, rather than only the apartment door. If you are using an elevator, obtain its door opening and usable interior dimensions and ask management about the move window, loading entrance and current COI requirements. For a studio move, identify worktables, shelving and packed materials separately from household cartons. We use that access description and inventory to discuss what the written estimate should cover. If a doorway is too tight to assess from measurements, flag it for further review before the move. Keep the agreed route clear and tell us if a building booking or entrance changes.
Questions before moving day
What do you need for a Chelsea basement apartment?
Describe the entrance serving the unit, including any outside steps and the turn at the bottom. Do not count only the internal floor number. Share measurements of the narrowest door and the largest furniture so the carry route can be discussed.
Can you assume a West Chelsea studio has a freight elevator?
No. Ask the property which elevator, if any, can be used and how it connects to the loading door. A district designation establishes geography, not current freight access or management policy.
Should I book the elevator before asking for a written estimate?
Obtain the available windows and the building’s instructions as early as you can. Share them with the inventory so the proposed schedule can be considered at both ends. Confirm the actual booking separately with management.
