Brooklyn to Jersey City has two truck routes, and neither uses the Belt Parkway. The Belt Parkway is closed to commercial vehicles (NYC DOT). A moving truck goes either through Lower Manhattan (Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, then the Holland Tunnel) or around through Staten Island (Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, then the Bayonne Bridge). We pick the route for the day and the truck. Call (646) 455-1930.
The two routes
- Through Manhattan: the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel has a 12 ft 1 in height limit (MTA Bridges and Tunnels); the Holland Tunnel takes only two- and three-axle single-unit trucks (Port Authority).
- Through Staten Island: the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, then the Bayonne Bridge into New Jersey.
On the Jersey City side
Jersey City’s parking page lists a “No Parking Signs/Meter Bag” ordinance and a meter bag application (City of Jersey City). Ask the city early how to hold space for the truck on your block, and ask your building about move hours, the elevator and its COI.
Licensed for New York to New Jersey
This move crosses a state line, so federal rules apply. A & A Alliance Moving Inc (Two Guys And a Truck NYC), a family business since 1999, holds U.S. DOT No. 967970 and MC-432549 for moves between states, plus NYSDOT 34875 and NJPM 000930. Check any mover on the FMCSA website, and read the federal guides Ready to Move? and Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move.
After the move
New Jersey gives new residents 60 days after the move (or until the old license expires, if sooner) to transfer a driver license and registration (NJ MVC).
