Movers Between New York City and Connecticut

Many people leave a Manhattan apartment for a house in Fairfield County. Others come back to the city after years in Connecticut. Two Guys And a Truck NYC has moved families since 1999, and we plan this trip in both directions.

We move you between New York City and Connecticut. We do not do moves that start and end inside Connecticut.

How a moving truck leaves Manhattan

A moving truck cannot take the roads most drivers use to leave the island. Trucks and commercial vehicles are banned on the FDR Drive, the Harlem River Drive and the Henry Hudson Parkway. So our crew plans a truck route before moving day.

From the East Side, the truck usually crosses the RFK Bridge to the Bronx and joins I-95. From the West Side, it often takes city streets north and then the Cross Bronx Expressway, which is also I-95. From there, I-95 runs along the shore to Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, Bridgeport and New Haven.

You may know the Hutchinson River Parkway and the Merritt Parkway. Both are closed to trucks and commercial vehicles. That is why your moving truck may arrive by a different road than your car.

Two buildings, two sets of rules

A city move out has its own steps. Most Manhattan buildings want a certificate of insurance before movers come in. Many also make you book the freight elevator for a set time. We provide COI. Send us your building's request early, and we will get it to the managing agent.

The Connecticut side is often a house with a driveway, stairs and a long walk to the door. Tell us about steps, a narrow driveway or a low branch over the street. We plan the truck size and the crew for both ends, not just one.

The paperwork for an interstate move

A move from New York to Connecticut crosses a state line, so federal rules apply. We are A & A Alliance Moving Inc, U.S. DOT No. 967970, MC-432549, an FMCSA-authorized interstate household-goods carrier.

Here is what you get from us:

  • A written estimate before the move. We look at your things in person or by video.
  • The FMCSA booklet "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move."
  • A bill of lading on moving day. It is your contract and your receipt. Read it before you sign.

Keep these papers until the last box is open.

When to book

Weekends and the end of the month fill up first. Two to four weeks of notice gives you the best choice of dates. If your lease ends on a fixed day, tell us that date first, and we will work back from it.

Common questions

Do you move people from Connecticut to NYC too?

Yes. We pick up at your Connecticut home and deliver to your apartment in the city. We can plan the elevator booking and the COI for your new building.

Why does the truck not use the Merritt Parkway?

Trucks and commercial vehicles are banned there. Our trucks use I-95 and other truck routes instead.

Can you move me from one Connecticut town to another?

No. Our federal authority covers moves that cross a state line. Every move we do has one end in New York or New Jersey.
